This typographic poster & flyer is a contemporary take on the well known play, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare.

The minimalistic style matches the ethos of the not-for-profit theatre company Bell Shakespeare, however remains seperate to their current branding, as well as appealing to a modern day audience.

When conceptualising this task, I also considered how this play has been represented in the past, including Baz Luhrmann’s post modern take on the play as portrayed in the 1996 film.

As a poster the names ‘Romeo’ and ‘Juliet’ are written on opposite sides of the page in contrasting colours. This illustrates the conflict between the two families (the Montagues and Capulets). However, when folded into a flyer the names of the two lovers come together to meet in the middle at a diagonal fold. This diagonal fold further emphasises the division between the two lovers families creating a sense of tension.
